Hiking is a fun and healthy activity to do but one needs to prepare themselves earlier physically and mentally. Thus, hiking requires great strength and balance. It must be challenging to bring ourselves up to the mountain moreover with a load of crucial supplies.
Recently, a lovely adventurous couple shared their journey successfully reaching the well-known Annapurna Base Camp in North-Central Nepal.
You might ask, what’s interesting about them achieving this feat? Well, Ragavendra and Sheena took this task a level up when they decided to celebrate their one and only baby girl’s 1st birthday at the base camp of the world’s 10th highest mountain. (Isn’t that fascinating?)
The birthday celebration comes with an unforgettable meritorious gift. Stamping her tiny footsteps, the 12-month-year-old baby, Akshra Ragavendra has been certified as the youngest person to reach the Annapurna Base Camp at the height of 4130 metres. (That’s amazing)
Just a few weeks before this trip, she start taking her first few steps, felt like she did that so she could stand independently by the time she turns 1 at ABC. She has it all planned – Sheena
The determined mother, Sheena shared the family’s incredible hiking trip on her Instagram.
Sheena who was nervous about this hiking trip said she needed a lot of mental preparation before undertaking this arduous hiking journey. She stated that the biggest concern was her baby, Akshra.
“Our biggest concern was Altitude Mountain Sickness or maybe Akshra wouldn’t nap well, eat, or she would hate being in the hiking carrier, or we’d all just be miserable. I wanted to be optimistic about it all but I couldn’t help but think of all the things that could go wrong along the way…for the first time I asked my husband to get us all travel insurance (To make sure it covers heli-evacuation at high altitude).” Sheena said.
Further sharing the details of her travel, Sheena described during the climb, every step felt a lot heavier and the air was so thin, that she had to breathe deeply.

However, this ambitious couple made it through all the way with the help of only 1 guide (Prashant Gurung), conquering all the hurdles with mental strength, determination, and self-belief…most importantly with the help of the love they had for each other.
“I kept repeating this in my mind ‘God is with me and all is well, no matter what happens, keep going – Sheena”
Upon seeing the ABC board, the thrilled mother ran and touched it as she couldn’t believe that they achieved the amazing feat.
“Despite adverse weather conditions (monsoon season) and all the other challenges we faced, here we are dancing euphorically at the summit on Day 3 of our hike.”

You were the missing piece to your naina + me that we didn’t know we had been missing…You make our lives so much more exciting, adventurous, and worth living. Today we celebrate your birthday in the Himalayas. I will spend the rest of my days loving you, learning from you, and cherishing you. Happy 1st birthday Akshra! My heart couldn’t possibly love you more.”

As Sheena noted on her Instagram, “Trekking is so much more than just a long walk on trails,”. Well, that’s pretty much true. Trekking creates lifelong cherishable memories, lessons, self-discipline and more.
Bravo to this wonderful family and baby Akshra for proving that anything is achievable if you have the tenacity and willpower to achieve it.
