From Facebook to Twitter, we can see tonnes of netizens are bursting out of disappointments and frustrations with the current LRT issue.
Yesterday (8th November), RapidKL announces through their social handles that the LRT service between KLCC to Kelana Jaya and Kelana Jaya to Ampang Park station closed due to some technical issues. In the meantime, they advised passengers to use the free intermediate bus service or take other alternative modes of transport to travel.
Social media were flooded with questions and dissatisfaction from many LRT users as they were stranded at the stations unnoticed and some weren’t aware of the sudden situation. Some of them also shared that they aren’t able to get any e-hailing services at the moment due to rush hours, traffic and heavy downpour.
However, LRT users left home with the hope that the situation will be sorted out and most of them can travel like normal the next day. Earlier this morning, RapidKL made an announcement in regard to the issue to LRT users.
Today (8th November), via their Facebook page, RapidKL announces that 16 stations from the Kelana Jaya LRT line will be temporarily closed for 7 days straight, from 9th November to 15th November after being hit by temporary service interruptions.
Speaking to a daily LRT user Sangeetha, a KL employee residing at Subang Jaya said “As a regular Kelana Jaya Line LRT user, this disruption has majorly inconvenienced me. Yesterday, 6pm after work I walked all the way to the LRT station to notice it has been shut with little to no other options provided.”
The 26-year-old HR further explains that the only option she had at that time was to take a grab service and yet, the e-hailing back to Subang yesterday was expensive, which cost around RM50. “To add further inconvenience I had to wait nearly an hour to secure a grab as no drivers were accepting my grab request.”
Frustrated with the situation, she said “This has definitely brought difficulties like major traffic congestion, unacceptably high grab fares, moreover, a mental burden on arranging alternate transportation. I’m exhausted both physically and emotionally as I travel home from work yesterday.”
Another regular LRT user, Thivyaa Baskaran shared “I was drained from the incident yesterday. Everyone at my office had to take grab service as the LRT was not available. I found it difficult to return home as someone who travels all the way from Kajang using only public transit,”
Elucidating further, the 24-year-old said, “Thankfully I got a Grab during the non-stop rainy weather although I had to wait quite a long time, stuck in traffic for almost 1 hour 40 mins, reached KL Sentral then took the MRT back home.”
She who usually uses the LRT service from Pasar Seni to Kerinchi advises that we shouldn’t lash out at the RapidKL management because this is a sudden technical failure. She added that it would have been easier if there were other alternatives that could have been suggested by the management during this situation,”. Thivyaa also wishes that the office management would consider allowing their employees to work from home until this issue resolves and further notice from RapidKL.
