The teaser of Suriya’s upcoming film, NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran has been released to rave reviews. Collecting a whopping 5 million views in less than 48 hours, this minute long teaser hints at a through and through political film, with what appears to be elements of other successful films thrown into the mix.
NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran is a Selvaraghavan directorial, and the film will also feature Jagapathi Babu, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Bala Singh, Mansoor Ali Khan, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj and Ponvannan.
Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi make an appearance in the teaser. There are too many familiar moments, from Suriya’s bloody hand clawing in the air, to Sai Pallavi’s character’s words of encouragement. The last few seconds of the trailer appear to be a direct translation from Vijay’s infamous Thupakki scene where he says, “I’m waiting,”
The farmer appeal is definitely there, with Suriya shown driving a tractor. And his political capability is spoken of as the camera pans a wall with posters of Gandhi, Anna, Periyar, Ambedkar, MGR, Karunanidhi, Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi.
Selvaraghavan has not tasted success like his brother over the past few years. His last film was Irandaam Ulagam released 6 years ago. His two other projects Nenjam Marapadhillai and Mannavan Vanthanadi have been delayed for unknown reasons. The director seems to have had a tough time health wise as well. NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran was supposed to be released last Deepavali but it was delayed due to his health issues.
One thing we really enjoyed from the teaser of NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran was Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music that kept us on the edge throughout.
NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran is set to release later this year. Kaathirupom.
