The ‘Destar Siga‘ cloth is a native form of fabric weaving that originates from the Kadazan Dusun tribe in Sabah. This is mostly used as a headdress during traditional ceremonies featuring black thread and accented by multi-colored threads into various geometric patterns, flora, and fauna. On the new 5-cent coin, the ‘Destar Siga’ pattern is prominently featured, accompanied by the ‘sulur kacang‘ as a background motif.

The man behind this amazing outfit is Mr. Sara Lagong, a Sarawakian designer from the Iban ethnic. “It took almost a month to complete this masterpiece”, said Sara. The beauty of this national costume is that it incorporates both the Sabah and Sarawak elements making this a masterpiece. This many coins incorporated into a single dress has never been done before, and with that Olivia Nicholas, has become the first Malaysian pageantry-breaking history for the most 5 cent coins on a dress.

She will be competing with 60 other representatives from other countries. Datin Harveen Kaur, National Director Mrs Malaysia World wished Olivia and said the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.

Good luck with that amazing step Olivia!
