“Some superheroes don’t wear capes. They are called VETERINARIAN.”
Veterinarians have long been considered guardians of animal welfare and health because they cure all the problems of the voiceless. It requires a lot of passion and commitment to pursue a profession in the area of veterinary medicine.
Recently, one of the brilliant budding vet, Dr Subashini Ratha Pukallenthy gracefully graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan at the 12th Convocation Ceremony which was held on 23rd November 2022. Besides, she also earned the Best in Entrepreneurship and Best in Small Animal Medicine Awards, which were presented after the convocation ceremony at the oath-taking ceremony.
According to CUMIG, Dr Subashini is currently working as a small animal practitioner at a veterinary clinic in Rawang, Sungai Buloh.
Dr Subashini’s Vet Journey
After completing her primary education at SJK (T) Ladang Sungai Choh and her secondary education at SMK Bukit Sentosa, she took the step to explore more in the education field by pursuing a Diploma in Biotechnology at Polytechnic Nilai from 2013 to 2016.
She then earned an excellent CGPA of 3.9 points. Her polytechnic practical experience was a significant turning point for her, since the six months she spent at the Veterinary Research Institute in Ipoh drove her to continue studying veterinary science.
While waiting for the announcement of her UPU results, Dr Subashini continued to work at one of the Petaling Jaya veterinary hospitals even after completing her diploma degree.
The young vet had since discovered a great sense of love for the field she desired to study, which helped her to be selected for one of UMK’s most challenging programmes. She was selected for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. She gained experience handling animal-based food safety and assuring meat quality through the veterinary programme.
She received her dream course after 5 years of hard work, patience, and commitment. With all of that being poured in the 5 years, she successfully completed her education with commendable distinction.
Suba loves treating animals and looking out for their welfare as she is enthusiastic about anatomy, physiology, parasitology, radiography, and illnesses in animals.
Even though her path to becoming a veterinarian has been incredibly challenging, she has risen to take the task and now successfully become a skilful vet. She also gears up to become well-versed in cardiology and a small animal orthopaedic specialist.
“Never give up in any situation. Believe in the flow of life. Work hard for it. At the same time should not be very stressful if it doesn’t happen at that point of time.” – Dr Subashini Ratha Pukallenthy
