What could be better than binge-watching exciting new shows during the holidays?

We’ve got enthralling news for every Astro customer!

Astro proudly presents not one but two exciting shows for their beloved customers. They will be premiering the First Local Tamil sports series, “Veera” and a fun-filled live local Tamil talk show “Saravedi Night with Aanantha & Uthaya”.

Veera

Are you ready to feel the heat of the intense sport?

Helmed by renowned local filmmaker, M.S Prem Nath, this intriguing sports series titled Veera features talented local artistes such as Theebaan Govindasamy, Thasha Krishnakumar, Sharmendran Raghonathan, Shamini Shradha and more.

This 22-episode series revolves around Veera, a talented martial artist trained by former boxing champion, Thennavan, who has to face his own brother as a rival in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) championship. Whether Veera chooses to battle it out with a full heart to win the championship or let his brother be crowned champion forms the crux of the story.

According to the director of this series, M.S Prem Nath he said that Veera is inspired by a local boxer from Ipoh in the 1950s, whom he met a few years back.

“The plot in this series, however, is fictional. The story was initially developed for a feature film which evolved into this series. Veera is the first local Tamil sports series with a focus on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) while also presenting elements related to family, friendship, love, and more.” he emphasized.

Fun Fact: All the athletes featured in this series are professional fighters including both lead casts, Theebaan Govindasamy and Sharmendran Raghonathan.

This point itself will definitely hook the audience with a very realistic view of fight sequences. “I am also glad to have had the privilege to cast an international actor, Mr Mathialagan in this series.” Prem expressed.

Mahesvaran Balakrishnan, Assistant Vice President, Indian Channel Business (Astro Vinmeen), Astro, said, “We are excited to present a fresh genre of local Tamil entertainment for our customers to enjoy. This series is unique also because it features actual professional fighters which will help give audiences a feel of being in an actual fighting ring. We look forward to providing local talents from diverse backgrounds a platform to showcase their talents and look forward to working with more local production teams.”

Veera premieres on 19 December, 9pm on Astro Vinmeen (Ch 202) with new episodes available every Monday to Thursday at 9pm on TV and Astro GO or stream anytime On Demand.

They have released the theme song of this series. Check out the goosebumps-filled song now:
