It was an unbelievable moment for R. Madhavan after receiving the news that his film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect has made it to Oscar’s first list.
The Nambi Effect was classified as one of the best Indian films of 2022 and received widespread critical acclaim. The film is based on the true life story of Nambi Narayanan, a former Space Scientist who contributed to the Indian space program by developing the Vikas rocket engine. He was then accused of surveillance but the charges against him were disproven. The movie also marked Madhavan’s directorial debut.

According to a source, Madhavan expressed his excitement and said, “This film continues to give. The journey gets more rewarding and we are all in a daze. Firstly, the love of people around the world, Nambi sir getting the recognition he so richly deserved and now this… what more can I ask for from my directorial debut! The excitement begins again.”
Madhavan also shared how tough it was for him to act, direct and produce a film simultaneously.
He added, “When we started making the film, I wanted Nambi Nayarayan’s story to be heard and get him the recognition he deserved. I never thought the film would make me a writer, director, and producer. Now, this honour of being shortlisted as one of the films on the Oscars contention list. This keeps getting better!”
Apart from ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, 4 other films of the regional language have been nominated for the Oscar 2023 list and that includes ‘RRR’, ‘Kantara’, ‘Vikrant Rona’, and ‘Iravin Nizhal’.
