Road Closures For Thaipusam 2023 Around Batu Caves and Penang

Following the upcoming annual Thaipusam Festival on this coming Sunday (5th February), there are several roads and intersection have been announced to be closed.

Batu Caves

According to the Police, about two million Hindu devotees and visitors are expected to visit Batu Caves this year.

Zainal Mohamed Mohamed, the Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner said the traffic congestion around the Batu Caves area are expected to start from today (3rd February) to 6th February.

He also mentioned that the chariot procession would leave the temple in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee here around 10pm on Friday (3rd February) and expected to arrive at Batu Caves about 3pm on Saturday.

Having that said, seven roads around the Batu Caves Temple will be closed from midnight tonight until 8th February.

  • Kg Melayu-Batu Caves Traffic Light
  • Slip road from MRR2 to Batu Caves Temple
  • Jalan Perusahaan heading to Batu Caves Temple
  • MRR2 slip road from Sri Gombak to Susur Perusahaan
  • The intersection of Jalan SBC 8 / Jalan Batu Caves Lama
  • Sri Batu Caves (SBC) T-junction Traffic Lights in front of the Shell Petrol Station

Penang

With expecting more than 1.5 million devotees this Thaipusam, on the 4th of February 2023, the procession of the Golden Chariot at Penang will begin at 6.30 am from Lebuh Queen while the Silver Chariot will begin at 7.30 am, from Lebuh Penang. Both chariots will be making their way to the Penang Waterfall Temple.
