This brilliant singer once again brought glory to our country.  🤩

A lawyer turned professional singer, Kamal Chopra clinched the Best International Artist title at the UK Bhangra Awards 2022. She claimed this prestigious award for the second time, this time defeating six other nominees from Canada, Denmark, India, Japan, the Netherlands, and Australia.

In 2019, this brilliant vocalist, who bagged the same award, also became the FIRST MALAYSIAN to do so.

The UK Bhangra Awards, organized by Culture Unite, is the largest Bhangra event in the UK. It has been held annually since 2014.

The mother of three expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her supporters, family, and fans worldwide for helping her bag the award.

“It means a lot to me. I feel this award has given me due recognition for all the hard work I have put in, whether it was for my studio work or live performances. I am so proud to have placed Penang and Malaysia on the map for my music,” the Penangite expressed.

The UK award team was enticed by Chopra’s multilingual performances, which included songs in Hindi, Punjabi, English, Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin.

“The community around me has been so encouraging. It was such an honour to win it the first time because there were so many countries involved, but to win it for a second time, my goodness, it has been a blessing,” she said, noting that it means a lot to her to be noticed internationally, where someone is judged based on their merits and not on fame or connections.

She is the lead singer of the six-piece rock band Vintage Rising and has a diverse range of languages and musical styles.

The singer’s husband initially encouraged her to follow her passion for music when she gave up her legal career ten years ago. When she began getting offers to sing at events, charities, and competitions, what had been a hobby became a more serious endeavor.

“After I got the award in 2019 was when I started concentrating on original music. My first song was in Hindi, followed by two Punjabi songs. I have several songs coming out in the next few months, and I hope to have an album by the end of the year,” Chopra said.

She highlighted that this honour has expanded her horizons.

“This achievement has made me want to go further. I hope to be able to break into Bollywood, which I’m certain I will.” the singer wrapped.

Congratulations on this big win, Kamal Chopra & all the best in your upcoming ventures.
