Malaysian Silambam Korvai Athletes Clinched Overall Champion In India’s Silambam Competition

It is indeed a moment to treasure to see Malaysians emerge gloriously on the international stage.

Athletes of Silambam Korvai Malaysia have recently shone excellently at the International Silambam Competition 2023, securing the title of OVERALL CHAMPION with multiple wins. The Silambam competition was hosted in Chennai, India on the 18th and 19th of February 2023.

Delving more into this historical moment, Varnam Malaysia has reached out to one of the athlete, Kaviarasi Sanggar to learn more about their recent triumph.

Kaviarasi Sanggar, who is also a Silambam coach shares that initially the team targeted to win five gold medals. Pouring their hearts and souls, they have devoted nearly two months training and getting ready for this competition.

It was worthwhile in the end.

These Malaysian representatives became the overall champion by winning 14 GOLD, 12 SILVER and 7 BRONZE, defeating all athletes from other countries.

Sharing this incredible win with everyone, Kaviarasi posted a heartfelt post on her Instagram.

The National Record holder expressed “I’m back as an athlete after a lengthy break. I’ve been in Silambam for almost 17 years; since my first year, my master inspired me with his speech to perform Silambam in the motherland of all arts, India.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to perform on this land of art. Thanks for this opportunity master Anba and Master Jothi for helping us to reach our dream.” she conveyed her gratitude to her masters.

Big kudos to the entire Silambam Korvai Malaysia team for bringing such a significant victory to our country.

Remember, It’s our responsibility to treasure all the martial arts that have been taught by our ancestors. Let’s start embracing our culture and pass down this ancient Indian martial arts to the coming generations.
