No one has ever become poor from giving- Anne Frank

Down Syndrome Association of Malaysia (PSDM) and World Saree Day Malaysia (WSDM) have collaborated to raise funds for down syndromes through a runway fashion show. This event is also targeted to educate about the uniqueness of the saree and introduce the culture of wearing the saree in Malaysia.

During a press conference held at the Bunglow37 on 1st March 2023, organising chairperson and Director of Bkay Nair Resources (BNR), Bkay Nair said, the event will feature over 60 sarees of various materials, textiles, and draping which will mainly be intended to raise funds for vocational training and learning costs for the  Down Syndrome community.

Present at the conference were, special guest Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, PSDM President Norhana, and a few members from the PSDM association.

Bkay shared that the fashion show will highlight ‘kanchipuram’ and ‘banarasi’ sarees, which are among the most expensive Indian traditional garments, and will also see the participation of 10 experienced Down Syndrome models.

“I have worked with various people and this is my first initiative training in helping the special ones. Again it does not matter who you are or where you come from, I’m willing to give my best in helping the community grow. And for this project, my aim is to support and encourage entrepreneurs with down syndrome-Bkay Nair

Also as international women’s day is around the corner, WSDM  strives to preserve the diverse cultures of the many races in Malaysia while cultivating the spirit of love and respect for traditional culture among the current generation so that it is not forgotten.

In line with that, this event is a combination of charity, education, culture, and fashion” she added at the conference yesterday. Bkay also expressed her gratitude towards the sponsors and fund donors who have played a vital role in this event.

The Saree Fashion Show will take place on March 19 at the Dewan Tun Abdul Razak, Bank Rakyat Twin Towers from 2.30 pm onwards.
