Indeed the show stealer of the night!
Yesterday (May 11), the national Under-22 (U-22) team trounced Singapore 7-0 in the last match of Group B at Prince Stadium in Phnom Penh, setting the men’s football competition of the 2023 SEA Games to a satisfying victory.
One man completely took over this thrilling match. Striker, T. Saravanan made a name for himself by leading the Harimau Muda team in goals during this game. In this intense game, he amazingly scored FOUR GOALS.
Saravanan led the team by scoring the first goal in the 15th minute and racked up the points for the Malaysian team by scoring goals in the 48th, 54th, and 63rd minutes.
While Haqimi Azim Rosli (45th), captain Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi (88th), and Aiman Afif Afizul (90th) scored the other goals for Malaysia,
Despite being one of Malaysia’s biggest triumphs over Singapore, E. Elavarasan’s squad has already been eliminated from the semi-finals; therefore, the victory is largely symbolic. With six points at the end of the season, they came in third place behind Vietnam and Thailand.
For the record, Malaysia last took home a medal at the SEA Games in 2017, winning a silver medal in Kuala Lumpur, and we last won a gold medal in Indonesia in 2011.
However, kudos to every player who has given their all to this game. Everyone did a good job.
Make your comeback stronger than your setback, team!
