It is wonderful to treasure our valuable Indian cultures, but to bring them to the international level and excel in them is mind-boggling.

Recently, around 120 determined athletes from Malaysian Silambam Porr Kalai bagged a big win at the 3rd Invitational Global Silambam Championship in Indonesia. The competition was held from May 19th to May 21st, spearheaded by the Batam Institute of Technology (ITEBA) together with the Riau Islands Provincial Government (Kepri Province) and the Batam City Government, with the collaboration of Grand Master Mooralitharan Narayanan’s Porr Kalai Malaysia Silambam Council and Prince Muhammadiyah Kepri Sacred Site Faculty.

According to Vice President and Technical Head Porr Kalai Malaysia Silambam Council, Master B. Suresh, Malaysian athletes has won many medals in this international competition.

The Prince of Muhammadiyah remarked that the purpose of this activity is to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of self-defense, and he hopes similar events can be held again in the future and provide greater benefits for both countries and martial arts lovers.

Speaking to Master B. Suresh, he shared the impact of this friendly Silambam competition between two countries.

“It’s delightful to witness our kids bring back glorious medals. Also, the Indonesian Silambam athletes have skillfully taken part in this competition, and they have also bagged some medals,” he said.

“The main reason for this friendly Silambam competition was to spread the goodness of this martial art all over the world. Apart from adding merit to their school curricular activities, it also creates many opportunities for the athletes to excel more in this field in the future,” Master Suresh emphasises.

“It also boosts their self-confidence by participating in this competition.”

Here are some students who have brought glory back to our nation after winning in another country:

Congratulations to every athlete who has poured their heart and soul into triumphing in this global competition.
