Deepika Padukone Plays An Acid Attack Survivor In Next Film ‘Chhapaak’

The first look poster for Meghna Gulzar’s next film, Chhapaak, was released today and it left us all wanting for more. Deepika Padukone will be playing the lead in this film that revolves around the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

The first look poster shows Deepika in prosthetic makeup that recreated the scars of acid burn in announcement that the filming of Chhapaak will commence today. When asked about Deepika’s role in the film, director Meghna Gulzar said, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”

Chhapaak is Deepika’s first film since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. She will be starring opposite Vikrant Massey who delivered an acclaimed performance in Konkona Sen Sharma’s A Death in the Gunj. The inspiring acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agrawal, has given her blessings for this film and is delighted that Deepika has been casted for to play her role.

Chhapaak will be released on January 10, 2020.
