Call Out for Talented Filmmakers! Ulagam Short Film Contest 2023 is Now Open

Calling out to all talented Malaysian Indians aspiring to be directors, here is a great opportunity to showcase your creativity. Participate in the Ulagam Short Film Contest 2023 to not only showcase your own talents but also to develop the Malaysian Indian film industry.

This year’s theme is “Malaysian Stories”. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase untold tales about the Malaysian Indian community, and with so much talent amongst us, many new filmmakers can be discovered through this wonderful opportunity presented by Astro Ulagam. To learn more about the details of the competition, read below.

Detail on Ulagam Short Film Contest:

  • Aspiring local filmmakers are invited to participate in the Ulagam Short Film Contest from now till 30 June 2023 for a chance to win exciting cash prizes and the opportunity to produce a telemovie.
  • To participate, contestants need to:
    ⦁ Create an original 20-minute short Tamil film with a Malaysian theme.
    ⦁ Create a film poster for their short film.
    ⦁ Complete the contest entry form, submit their short film and poster via  www.astroulagam.com.my.
  • Winners of the competition will be selected based on originality, creativity, acting, cinematography, editing, script and screenplay by a panel of judges.
  • Ten winners will take home the following cash prizes:
    ⦁ 1st place winner: RM10,000 and an opportunity to produce a telemovie which will premiere on Astro.
    ⦁ 2nd place winner: RM8,000.
    ⦁ 3rd place winner: RM6,000.
    ⦁ Seven consolation prize winners: RM3,000
