Dersenish Aresandiran with an excellent educational background and working experience is a well deserving person for all the higher ranking position in his career. He has completed his Masters Degree in Monash University Australia in the field of International Business. He also did his Bachelors Degree in Bachelors of Business and Information Technology from University of Sydney in Australia. This shows that he did double Degree. Upon completing his studies, he later joined Berjaya Corporation, a Malaysian corporation that controls a number of businesses, notably hotels, casinos, airlines, restaurants and retail properties.
Currently, Malaysia Airlines has appointed Dersenish Aresandiran as its Chief Commercial Officer. He is the Chief Commercial Officer of airline business which involves Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings. Dersenish will be reporting to Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, the CEO there from 1st July 2023 onwards. Dersenish has come across a long journey in the field of airline.
As a stepping stone, in 2007, Dersenish joined MAS and worked under Revenue Management then after 4 years, he moved to Department of Advertising and Promotion. From there, he started his journey with AirAsia in Revenue Management as well. In 2012, he was promoted as Head of Commercial Strategy and Planning section and during the same year he was also providing assistance for the vacant positions of Head of Sales and Acting Head of ancillary.
Continuously, he was promoted to Head of Revenue Management in 2013. After being promoted, he made Group(AAX) Head Revenue Management for the group Airlines in 2014. Dersenish was given the responsibility of leading the Revenue team in 2014, one of the most challenging years in Malaysian aviation history due to the numerous difficulties the sector experienced. In spite of a 34% increase in capacity and fierce price competition, he introduced a number of RM projects and enhancements that helped the company record maintain steady growth in LF (82%) and Q4 2014 saw the highest RASK growth ever which is 24% RASK growth with a 10% yield increase. His highlighted largest accomplishment was making Thai AirAsiaX profitable within 6 months of operation. He played a key role in establishing the commercial revenue plan combining Thai AirAsiaX and Indonesia AirAsiaX.
In 2015, Qatar Airways welcomed Dersenish as the head of Commercial Innovation & Solutions unit and later he moved on as Vice President Global Sales. When he was holding this responsibility, Dersenish contributed to the creation of numerous innovative sales strategies, launched a flurry of new ancillary items, and neglected global commercial sales distribution strategy. Within six months, more than 195 improvements and adjustments were made to the job, including the digitalization of several sales segments, improvements to e-commerce, and renegotiations of Global Corporate and TMC contracts totaling more than USD $1 billion in revenue. He left Qatar Airways in the middle of 2018 to join Malaysia Airlines Berhad, where he helped create the Long Term Business Plan (LTBP), which helped the airline achieve record-breaking revenue figures in 2019. He later returned to Qatar Airways in 2021.
Looking at his expertise and achievements in this field, the memo quoted ‘We embarked on a comprehensive search and finally landed the perfect candidate’. It shows that MAS is proud to have Dersenish, the well deserving person as their Chief Commercial Officer. We wish Dersenish will continue his contribution and victory here.
