K. Prabudass, 33 years old from Negeri Sembilan is our nation’s long distance runner. He was back on track in the Gold Coast Marathon in QueensLand, Australia after a four years gap. The marathon was on 1st and 2nd July 2023. Despite a four years lost of touch, the athlete managed to incredibly smash his own half-marathon national record. He has created a new benchmark by setting the bar high for the half-marathon national record.

In May 2021, Prabudass had set his previous national record 1:07:00s at the Hokkaido Sapporo Marathon Festival which took place in Japan. This time, the athlete had completed 21km within 1:06:53s at the Gold Coast Marathon.  With that, he stood in 17th place overall in the men’s category. That was a great come back for him after four years. Prabudass took this opportunity to thank his coach, family, friends and all the sponsors and supporters who were motivating him constantly. He wrote the thank you post on his social media account.

Recently in May 2022, Prabudass missed an opportunity to participate in a running competition at Hanoi due to an mysterious illness which he was suffering from at Hanoi. The athlete suffered from a mysterious fainting spells and had rashes on his body. He was admitted in the hospital at Hanoi for medical tests and treatment for the illness. Surprisingly after going through all the medical reports of multiple medical tests taken, the doctors could not find the cause of the illness which he is being suffering from. The doctors advised Prabudass to not get involved in the men’s 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m events. Even though he was willing to take part in the competition on his own risk, the doctors said a big NO for it! It was devastating for Prabudass because he had record of clocking out much more faster compared to the participants who won in the competition.

However with much pride, the champ has bounced back with great spirit this time and smashed his own record. The athlete deserves this record breaking finishing for the effort he has invested in his passion. The hunger of Prabudass striving for the victory should be an inspiration for teenagers these days. Our heartiest congratulations to Prabudass for his great achievement!
