Chandramukhi was a massive blockbuster hit in Tamil cinema when it came out in 2005. The Tamil version, which was an adaptation of the original Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu, saw the stellar cast of Rajnikanth, Jyothika, and newcomer Nayanthara. The film had won five Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and several other prestigious awards, like the Kalaimamani Award for both Jyothika and Vadivelu, as well as the Filmfare Awards South. Now, nearly two decades later, a second installment of the psychological horror film, titled Chandramukhi 2, will be released with Raghava Lawrence leading the film. The sequel will be produced by the prestigious Lyca Productions, which has previously created prestigious works like the Ponniyin Selvan Franchise. This film is helmed by the brilliance of P. Vasu, who was the original director of the Tamil remake in 2005.
The film will be scored by the Oscar-winning music composer MM Keeravani, who has won several international awards, including the Oscars, for his work on the song Naatu Naatu for the film RRR. The film, titled Chandramukhi 2, has already finished its shooting, with the post-production of the film nearly complete. It has been announced that the title track will be released some time in the coming month, with the film’s production having decided that the audio launch of the film should be celebrated in a grand and momentous way. The film will also witness Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who made a presence in Tamil cinema through the lukewarm and historically inaccurate film Thalaivi, which was meant to be a biographical drama on the impactful life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
The film is also much awaited by fans of Vadivelu, who will get to witness the veteran actor reprise his role as Murugesa. Vadivelu had just seen the successful run of his film Maamannan, directed by Mari Selvaraj, in which he had performed phenomenally as an opportunist Dalit politician. Along with Vadivelu, the film’s cast will also consist of Mahima Nambiar, Lakshmi Menon, Sirushti Dange, Rao Ramesh, Vignesh, Ravi Maria, Suresh Menon, Subiksha Krishnan, and many others. The sequel is more geared towards a horror comedy than the previous film, which was more concentrated on the psychological aspect of the plot. The highly anticipated film is preparing to be released worldwide this coming September 15th.
