An intriguing fact is chess first appeared in India about the sixth century CE. It had spread from Asia to the Middle East and Europe by the 10th century. Because of the diverse piece abilities and the win condition being the capture of a single piece (king), some consider the game chaturanga to be the forerunner of contemporary chess.

Chess is an immensely challenging and intellectual game, and its popularity has led to numerous national and international competitions, including the Chess Olympiad and the World Chess Championship. Many people find joy and satisfaction in mastering the intricacies of chess and honing their strategic thinking, making it a timeless and favourable pastime.

SJK (T) Ladang Midlands, Shah Alam took the initiative to embrace the intellectual game among Indian students. The school had organised a national level chess competition named as “Midlands National Chathuranga Tournament 2023”. This was an opportunity to showcase the talent of Indian students.
