The highly accomplished Dr. Umawathy Techanamurthy has just been awarded the prestigious Australia Awards Indonesia Scholarship. The senior lecturer of the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Engineering Unit, Engineering Education Department, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB) from the renown National University of Malaysia is an incredibly forward-thinking intellectual.
The brilliant woman is in the field of TVET because she is incredibly dedicated and passionate about developing better digital methodologies that institutes can apply in the field of education.
The highly acclaimed scholarship garnered the astute professor a fruitful opportunity to join the much-awaited short course on “Improving Digital Readiness and Resilience of TVET Systems in ASEAN”. This educational platform was held from June 9th to June 25th in Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia, and was organised by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
This phenomenal programme saw Dr. Umawathy Techanamurthy join 25 other TVET professionals who were also from the ASEAN region. All members of the programme were expertly welcomed by the team from the RMIT Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CCSRI). This significant programme was aimed at helping TVET professionals develop more diverse, contemporary, and cutting-edge methodologies that allow for more refined online and blended training. The programme was also structured to develop ideas of how educational and vocational institutes can rapidly adapt digital and blended learning techniques in their spaces.
“Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.” — Heidi Hayes Jacobs, Owner, Curriculum Designers, Inc.
Moreover, the participants were also immersed in the knowledge sphere of digital society, and digitalized education, both the learning and teaching of it, can contribute tremendously towards creating a digitally literate world. In our times, digitalization is very quickly developing, and many children from rural and working classes face difficulties in acquiring digital education. It is crucial that the intellectuals of our time collaborate on creating a digital world that is equal for all.
This particular course helps bridge the gap in digitalized education by equipping ASEAN TVET professionals with brilliant ideas, thoughts, and solutions. Dr. Umawathy Techanamurthy expressed how grateful she felt for being part of this programme because it had allowed her to develop her own ideas on TVET that will greatly contribute to the educational institutions of Malaysia.
