Director Shankar Shanmugam, widely known as Shankar, is a prominent Indian filmmaker celebrated for his visionary storytelling, larger-than-life visuals, and groundbreaking approach to cinema. With a career spanning over three decades, Shankar has left an indelible mark on the Indian film industry and has garnered a global fanbase. His innovative narratives, coupled with cutting-edge technology, have elevated Indian cinema to new heights.

Today marks the 60th birthday of S Shankar, one of the most successful filmmaker in Tamil cinema’s history. The writer and director has created some of Tamil cinema’s all-time classics, which went on to attain pan-Indian popularity when the term “pan-India” was not as widely used as it is presently.

“Indian” (1996): “Indian,” also known as “Hindustani,” delved into corruption and social issues. The film featured Kamal Haasan in a dual role and showcased Shankar’s penchant for blending entertainment with a strong social message.
