Vallalar has historically been an influential and intriguing ideological and spiritual figure in Tamil society; his thoughts on compassion, morality, and the sanctity of life have always been rooted in ideal aspirations of selflessness. To commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Vallalar, the First World Arut Peroli Arutperum Jothy Divine Conference was organised by Malaysia’s Arut Peroli Arutperum Jothi Sabai.
This conference, which took place at University Malaya from October 9–10, was attended by nearly 500 people, including speakers, researchers, musicians from Malaysia, Singapore, and India. The aim of the event was to propagate among the common people the organisation’s interpretation of Vallalar’s teachings, philosophy, and spirituality.
This conference was held to raise awareness among the public about Vallalar. We are incredibly happy that nearly 700 people attended this conference.
– Gopalakrishnan, Head of the Organising Committee
Tamil Nadu’s Salem Kuppusamy, a prominent thinker and researcher on the philosophy and teachings of Vallalar, stated that the conference was important in delivering a more spiritual interpretation of Vallalar.
Although in one aspect Ramalingam Vallalar’s philosophy is seen as a modern era’s aim of humanity, equality, and rationalism, from another perspective, this conference contextualises the meditation forms of Siddhars and the yogic teachings imbedded in Vallalar.
