Shereen Samson Vallabouy, the 25-year-old national track superstar of Malaysia, has just been awarded the bronze medal for the 400m final at the Asian Games 2023. This is a historic win for the Malaysia, as this is the first time since 17 years that a Malaysian athlete has been awarded a medal at the Asian Games.
Shereen has won third place, finishing the 200-metre spirit at 52.58s. The gold medal was won by Bahrain’s Adekoya Oluwakemi Mujidat, who fisniehd at 50.92s and 50.66s, and the silver medal was also won by another Bahraini athlete. The Malaysian athlete finished slightly slower than her national mark of 51.80s at the Hangzhou Olympic Stadium.
The young athlete expressed her outmost gratitude towards her family and her coach, as well as to the many institutes, government bodies, and individuals who have been supportive and conducive to her growth as an international athlete.
But most importantly I’m proud of the woman I’m growing into – out of the many, this season has taught me to have faith thru it all, and to show up strong no matter what. This is for you mom, dad, my sister, and coach White for all the hard work we’ve put together.
The US-based sportwoman is the daughter of the incredibly gifted and phenomenal national sports couple Samson Vallabouy and Josephine Mary. Both individuals still hold on to their titles, as Samson’s 34-year-old 800-metre SEA Games record is still undefeated and Josephine’s 800-metre national record is still unchallenged after 37 years.
