Mrs Kanikaa Selvaraju, the Leader of Women’s Division in Malaysia Hindu Sangam Kajang district, highlighted the significance of empowering women to generate income from their homes in today’s context.
She discussed the importance of enabling and encouraging women to contribute to their household incomes while remaining at home. This could be through various means such as starting small home-based businesses, freelance work, or online ventures. This empowerment not only provides economic benefits but also promotes self-sufficiency and financial independence among women.
This approach of Mrs Kanikaa, aligns with modern economic and social trends, recognizing the value of women’s active participation in generating income and the vital role they play in contributing to the well-being of their families and communities.
The ability to have additional skills offers women a unique opportunity to tap into their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. By mastering this skill, they can produce a wide range of artisanal products, from decorative items and jewelry to clothing, accessories, and home decoration. These handmade crafts often hold a special appeal in the market, as they are imbued with the artisan’s personal touch, making each piece distinctive and valuable.
The Malaysia Hindu Sangam, Kajang district has done a great initiative. They hosted one day workshop for 25 women which taught them the proper way of saree draping. Learning additional skills is an added advantage which might be useful for us in anyways. Nowadays, importance are given to additional skills and handcraft skills, stated the secretary of Malaysia Hindu Sangam Kajang district Kasturi Govinthan.
