Tamil Youth Bell Club had organised a short story writing competition for the first time in last September. This initiative was driven in the concern of discovering young and talented writers among the society. This competition was open to people from 18 to 35 years old.
This club has been operating for the past 67 years in Malaysia. They have done numerous efforts and programmes which mainly focuses the well being of the students and teenagers. The Tamil Youth Bell Club was formed from the efforts of the great Tamil scholar Tamizhavel Go. Sarangapani. They emphasize Tamil based activities, programmes and competitions in this club. Their concern on our mother language is much appreciated.
Despite being the first attempt of this competition, Tamil Youth Bell Club received more than 100 participations. This shows that there are many talents out there seeking for the right opportunities to show their talent. This is not to just take part in competitions, but those people might have been trying for opportunities to publish their work, to direct a movie or short film script for their story and many other opportunities which will showcase their abilities to the outer world.
In order to honor each and every participants of the competition, the Tamil Youth Bell Club had organised a prize giving ceremony of the short story competition on 15th October 2023 at Koptows EDC hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Oms Thiagarajan graced the event as Special guest.
Oms Thiagarajan congratulated the team of Tamil Youth Bell Club for this great attempt and achievement. He also stated that he will be supporting the programmes organised by this club. He is also ready to support their upcoming competition which is a forum.
The champion of the short story writing competition is Megala Thevi Varatharajan. She received a mock cheque worth RM700 along with a trophy and certificate from Oms Thiagarajan. Lashri Shankar became the first runner up of the competition and received a mock cheque worth RM500 together with the certificate and trophy. Third place was sealed by Anantha Jothi Segar with mock cheque for RM300, certificate and trophy. Additionally, there were 10 participants received special prize which is RM100.
The first short story competition hosted by the Tamil Youth Bell Club represents a pivotal moment in their ongoing dedication to fostering literary talent within the community. This marks a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to promote and nurture literary talents within the community. The impressive participation of over 100 individuals underscores the presence of abundant, undiscovered literary brilliance among these young minds.
