On October 21, 2023, the renowned Malaysian Association for the Blind organised a marvellous programme in conjunction with Deepavali. The programme, which was titled Deepavali Charity Concert, was aimed at bringing forth and appreciating blind singers who had just as much potential as any other individual. The concert took place at the Civic Centre in Petaling Jaya, where seven astoundingly talented artists showcased their musical skills on stage.
Malar Vizhi, a singer who was featured on the concert, shared that at the beginning she was nervous, but through the warm and encouraging support she received, she was able to perform without any doubts. Malar’s experience on stage proves that individuals just need a little support to be able to express their wonderful talents to the world.
I am very happy to sing at this event. This is the second year that the Malaysian Association for the Blind is conducting this event for blind singers. This gives us great encouragement, and it also gives us the drive to perform at many more concerts. We express our sincere gratitude towards their efforts.
– Raman Raguraaman, a blind singer
Many who attended the event shared how this opportunity to appreciate the blind singers helped showcase how blind individuals too, had talents and skills of their own. With proper guidance and opportunities from both the government and civic society, those who are differently able can be allowed to perform on par with or even more successfully than able-bodied individuals.
