Sid Sriram’s English Album ‘Sidharth’ Launches In Kuala Lumpur On November 29, 2023

Sid Sriram‘s newest album, Sidharth, will be launching in Kuala Lumpur on November 29, 2023, at 7 p.m. under the organisation Woodmark Events and Lotus Five Star with the collaboration of Maestro Kuala Lumpur. Sid’s latest solo album, Sidharth, is unlike any of his previous works, for it is a creation that bears the most intimate and guttural sense of his own consciousness, identity, and journey as both a creative performer and a person. Sid has been wildly known within the Indian sphere of music as a versatile singer who has given life to predominantly Tamil and Telugu film songs that encompass many genres, such as classic Carnatic music, pop, melody, and fusion. Although reluctant at first to be working in the Indian film industry, Sid grew to realise how the Indian music and film industry formed a foundational core to his becoming an internationally renowned artist. Working with the likes of Ilayaraaja, A. R. Rahman, Santhosh Narayanan, Yuvan Shankar Raja, and many more Indian music directors has truly refined and contributed to an aspect of Sid’s artistry, while the other parts of his musical multitude were birthed by his upbringing in Fremont, California, where, as a young boy, he was immersed in hip-hop, R&B, soul, jazz, and many more genres. His eclectic upbringing is one that is not only centred in the world of music but also in his complex relationship between land and borders, between India and America. These complexities are ones that metamorph into the metaphysical and lucid narratives that his album tries to express.

The album is truly a poetic work that is the culmination of his journey through the world, through the reality of existing completely, and through the deep intimacy of consciousness. Sid has expressed his own internal turmoil about his identity of growing up Indian in America; he speaks of the alienation and isolation that he has experienced in the cultural landscapes of California and how this album acts as an elixir that cures these voices within him. The music and the soul of this album are ones that affirm his being in all its entirety. From the genres that collide to the music being produced by Ryan Olson with the collaboration of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, the album is a ceaseless creation of pluralism. The multitudes that constructed this critical album is a revelation of the multitudes that exist and grows within Sid himself. The music truly bears a part of Sid’s soul within it that unflinchingly exposes itself to the world without needing to be classified into commercial margins.

The Hard Way is carried by its unyielding intimate reflection of Sid’s proclamation of love—a love that is beyond one of romance but a nostalgic, existential, chasm-like love for all those in his life. The music travels between electronic, to the heavenly and near haunting choir, and to Sid’s own wretched and vulnerable declaration of his love. This song encapsulates the journey one goes through in search of love, despite its arduous and often painful odyssey. The music video perfectly captures the complex realities that encircle Sid. From his childhood of performing Carnatic music to his adulthood of performing internationally across sold-out stages, the black church choir singers and hip-hop dancers all fortify the cultures and peoples that have created Sid Sriram; through flesh and soul, he is the reflection of these identities. The lyrics “We learned the hard way; love’s at the centre of it all” are the essence of this album; they affirm the truth that, at the core of the painful oasis of life, it is love that is its salvation and absolution.
