Madras High Court: Chinmayi Can Work In Tamil Films

Singer Chinmayi who was ousted from the Tamil Nadu Dubbing Union after she came forward with allegations of sexual harassment by lyricist Vairamuthu, has now been legally allowed to work in Tamil films by the Madras High Court.

When Chinmayi spearheaded the #metoo movement late last year, actor Radha Ravi, the president of the Dubbing Union terminated her membership, citing non payment of subscription fees for two years. This affected her livelihood, as she was one of the lead dubbing artists in Tamil Nadu, having just worked on the film 96.

Chinamyi took the issue to the court. In March, the Madras High Court issued an interim stay on her ban from the Tamil Nadu Dubbing Union. The court also asked the union, led by actor Radha Ravi, to respond to the order by March 25.

Yesterday, Chinmayi announced that the court has extended the stay on the ban on Chinmayi’s working in Tamil Films by the Dubbing Union. This means that she is legally allowed to work in Tamil films henceforth.

The Hon’ble Court has extended the stay on the ban on my working in Tamil Films by the Dubbing Union headed by Mr Radha Ravi.

Congratulatory messages and wishes have been pouring in to Chinmayi’s social media accounts from all over the world since the news broke.

There were a few wet blankets who questioned the singer on who will give her work after all that has transpired, to which Chinmayi candidly replies, “The Tamil Film Industry should!”

The Tamil Film Industry should, no? ? https://t.co/ChwVhzRgWL
