As the season of convocation is amidst us, many students are earning their degrees and are relishing in the fruits of their struggles to get here. One of those students is Krishalini Thirumaaran, who, after 7 long years of not giving up on her dreams, finally graduated from University Putra Malaysia with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science. This young, ambitious woman has stated that although her journey to this achievement has been long and filled with obstacles, her determination and the encouragement of her loved ones has been a boon that have kept her spirit striving throughout these long seven years.

Krishalini Thirumaaran, like many Indian students, faced the economic crisis of not being able to properly attain higher education, despite getting admission in 2015, but after continuously working hard and keeping to her studies, she had finally achieved her dream of education.

“I could not complete my studies in four years; I had a lot of financial problems, and I had a lot of obstacles. But how I overcame those obstacles was through the blessings of my parents and the motivation of my lecturers and friends. I did a lot of part-time work while studying, but in a way, it was not difficult for me; it was all based on scheduling and time management. You should never give up on any of your dreams.”

– Krishalini Thirumaaran

Another graduate who had triumphed against the hurdles thrown at him was Naveen Raj Suresh, who had earned his Masters degree after his relentless dedication towards success.

“I studied Bachelor in Biotech in Manipal. The reason I pursued this MBA degree is because my work is more related to business. So because I came from a medical field, it was tough at first to transition to this field, but because my lecturers were very supportive of me, I was able to attain this achievement.

– Naveen Raj Suresh

Professor Anusha Subramaniam had also shared that it was important for professors to be a source of encouragement and a guide for students who face various struggles in attaining higher education. She expresses that professors are to be examples and motivators that students can look up to and aspire to become, teaching them how to succeed in life.

Many people come with many different problems; we have to acknowledge and understand their problems. and guide them to success while giving them the motivation to do so. We need to be an example for students on how to be motivated and encouraged to succeed in life. Its not just about finishing your masters and PHD, because it is after all this that their life begins.

– Professor Anusha Subramaniam
