The Perak Indian Football Association has organised a football tournament for Indian girls under 12 from Tamil schools in the region. This tournament took place at the stadium of SJKT Methodist Buntong on 10th December 2023. This pioneering initiative aims to encourage and nurture the untapped talent of young female students in football.

By focusing on this specific demographic, the association seeks to provide a platform for these budding athletes to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. The tournament not only promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities but also underscores the importance of empowering girls in sports. Through this commendable effort, the association sends a powerful message about diversity and gender equality in the sporting landscape.

The organizing team noted a higher-than-anticipated turnout of students participating in the competition, indicating a keen interest among Indian female students in football. This unexpected influx of participants underscores the growing enthusiasm and engagement of young girls in the sport. The organizers recognize and acknowledge this positive trend, emphasizing that it signifies a broader interest and willingness among Indian female students to actively engage and contribute to the football community.

“The Perak Indian Football Association consistently organized an annual under-12 category football tournament exclusively for Tamil schools. Notably, participation had been limited to boys until recently. However, the latest tournament marked a turning point as female students demonstrated their prowess on the football field, challenging the prevailing notion. The participants’ performance serves as a testament to the fact that girls can excel just as proficiently as boys in football,” says the president of Perak Indian Football Association, Dato Amaludeen Ismail.

With proper training, these talented female students have the potential to compete at the national level. Their demonstrated skills in the recent tournament underscore their capability to excel in higher levels of competition. There were 15 groups took part in this tournament.
