As Malaysia sees another rise in Covid-19 cases, there are experts from the medical field who state that the Malaysian Health Ministry is capable enough to curtail this increase. As shared in NST, Dr Malina Osman, an epidemiologist and biostatistician Associate Professor from Universiti Putra Malaysia, shares that the ministry’s current implementation of measures are sufficient. She stresses that the public needs to be more responsible in contributing towards overcoming this new increase in cases.
Another expert, Dr Sazaly Abu Bakar, Universiti Malaya’s (UM) virology expert, stresses that while most Malaysians are vaccinated, there are still chances of them getting the infection and developing severe symptoms. He suggests that the public should do regular testing every day so as to know if they are indeed infected.
As the highly transmittable JN.1 variant has been spreading, Dr Vinod Balasubramania, a molecular virologist from Monash University, shares that Malaysia will need to continue taking appropriate measures to curtail this new variant that will increase the number of cases. He also states that the public needs to take more self-preventative measures in order not to burden hospitals.
