51-year-old Sivaperumal Subramaniam passed away on December 27, 2023, allegedly due to medical negligence on the part of the hospital. Sivaperumal, who had gone for dialysis treatment at the Klang Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), had been operated on to place a dialysis valve on December 7, but a 22-cm guidewire was left in the blood vessel. Former Seberang Prai City councillor David Marshel states that Sivaperumal’s health had declined since the incident and was suffering for 21 days as well as being warded to the Universiti Hospital before being discharged due to breathing difficulties and vomiting.
“His health has deteriorated since the incident where the guidewire was left in the blood vessel during a procedure to place a dialysis valve on Dec 7, which was later removed at the Sungai Buloh Hospital the next day,” said Marshel on his Facebook on Wednesday (Dec 27).
Fighting for Sivaperumal’s justice is lawyer J. Gunamalar, who states that her client’s death was incredibly worsening and that he had severely suffered the days before his death. She states that the Health Ministry has to investigate the matter in order to serve justice to Sivaperumal’s family. She also hopes that those who were involved in the negligence of the incident will be held responsible for their actions.
The director of Klang Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Dr. Zulkarnain Rawi, had also assured that the hospital would thoroughly perform an investigation into this allegation and that they would not compromise on holding those accountable for their negligence if any had been found to have taken place.
