In conjuction with the Hindu festival, Thaipusam, there will be a blood donation drive that will be organised at Batu Caves this year. The blood drive is jointly organised by the Sathya Sai International Organisation of Malaysia (SSIOM) and the Pusat Darah Negara (PDN). The blood drive will take place under the flyover, opposite the Batu Caves temple main entrance, from January 24th, 2024, to January 25th, 2024.
Those who do not wish to donate blood can instead volunteer themselves as a helping hand during the process or even get involved with the Paal Kudam prayer. Interested parties can register themselves through this link. For any further information on the matter, please kindly contact either Nagen at 012 345 3140 or Mohana at 012 278 6091.
Thaipusam will be happening on January 25 this year to mark the celebration of the Hindu deity, Murugan. The religious festival is observed worldwide by most Tamil Hindus as a form of veneration for the Murugan, who has a impactful cultural presence for Tamil Hindus. The devotion of Murugan has become, over the course of cultural invention, a significant emblem of Tamil Hindu identity itself. The importance of this religious icon is made even more crucial within a diasporic space like Malaysia, where Tamil Hindus, as minorities, feel even more obligated to express their religious and cultural heritage through this festival.
