Indian Athletes Honoured With Prestigious Awards At The Malaysian Athletics Award Ceremony

The Malaysian Athletics Award Ceremony which is titled as ‘Malam Anugerah Olahraga Malaysia 2024‘ in Malay was organised by Malaysia Athletics Federation which is popularly known as ‘Kesatuan Olahraga Malaysia’. The Malaysia Athletics Federation serves as the official regulatory body for athletics in Malaysia and holds membership within the global organization, World Athletics.

This event was organized to acknowledge and honor athletes who have made significant contributions to their field and demonstrated outstanding performance. The award ceremony took place at the Impiana KLCC Hotel on January 14, 2024. Remarkably, a few exceptional Indian athletes were honored with awards during this event.

National Record Holders

Shereen Samson Vallabouy

Shereen, a prominent and accomplished young Malaysian Indian athlete, garnered acclaim for her exceptional achievements. She was honored with an award for setting records in both the 200m and 400m events. In the 200m, she demonstrated remarkable speed with a time of 23.33 seconds, while in the 400m, she showcased her prowess with a time of 51.80 seconds. Her outstanding performances, marked by these record-breaking achievements, earned her well-deserved recognition during the ceremony.

Anugerah Sanjungan Budi Lambaian Kasih

Dato’ Annamalai Ramasamy

Dato’ Annamalai Ramasamy has been actively engaged in sports since his school days. Remarkably, he was honored with the ‘Anugerah Belia Khas 2017’ by the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Pemangku Raja Pahang. Furthermore, he has been a member of the Amatur Pahang council since 1986. Additionally, he holds the position of Chairman of the Medical & Anti-Doping Committee (Jawatankuasa Perubatan dan Anti-Doping). This prestigious award was granted to him in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the field of sports.

Tuan S. Govindarajoo

Tuan S. Govindarajoo has served as a technical officer since 1975, bringing decades of experience and expertise to his role. His dedicated service led to his membership on the council, a position he has held since 1990. In 1996, he further showcased his commitment to the sports community by serving as a judge in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Tuan S. Govindarajsoo has also played a pivotal role as a team manager in various games, contributing significantly to the success and coordination of different sporting events. His illustrious career reached a culmination with his retirement as the team manager of the Olympics in Tokyo. In recognition of his tireless efforts, dedication, and invaluable contributions to the world of sports, this award has been bestowed upon him as a token of appreciation.

Tuan Iyaru Muthusamy

Tuan Iyaru has been involved in the field of athletics since 1958, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the sport. His extensive experience and expertise led to his selection as the head coach, showcasing his leadership and mentorship qualities. Additionally, he was honored with the title of ‘Tokoh Sukan Negeri Perlis’ in recognition of his significant contributions to sports within the Perlis state. Tuan Iyaru’s impact extends beyond local boundaries, as he actively participated in numerous international games. In acknowledgment of his remarkable contributions and victories, he has been bestowed with a prestigious award, a testament to his dedication and excellence in the realm of athletics.

Anugerah Sanjungan Bakti

Datuk S. Vegayathuman

This award was presented to recognize the dedication of officers up to the present date. Among the honored recipients is Datuk S. Vegayathuman, whose notable involvement in athletics has set him apart. He secured the championship title in the cross-country race for three consecutive years, showcasing his outstanding athletic prowess. In addition to his on-field achievements, Datuk S. Vegayathuman has played a significant role as a board member in the national athletic federation. His contributions to the federation have not gone unnoticed, and he has been the recipient of numerous awards from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA), further highlighting his valuable contributions to the field.

Anbarasu Subramanian PJM, PPS, PPA

Anbarasu made significant contributions to sports, participating in the SEA Games in 1985 and later representing in the Commonwealth Games in 1998. His leadership skills came to the forefront when he assumed the role of head coach, guiding the team to victory with a Gold medal in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Apart from his achievements on the field, Anbarasu has continued to serve the sports community by taking on a role in the National Sports Council. This award stands as a fitting recognition for his dedicated and impactful contributions.

Anugerah Jasamu Dikenang

Dato’ Maruthamuthu Subramaniam

Dato’ Maruthamuthu stands as an exceptional figure in the field of athletics, having made significant contributions to the sport. This prestigious award is bestowed upon him in acknowledgment of his outstanding dedication and accomplishments, which have left an indelible mark on the athletic community. Dato’ Maruthamuthu’s noteworthy contributions encompass various aspects of athletics, showcasing his commitment and expertise.

Anugerah Tokoh Sukan

Dato M. Rajamani Mailvaganam

Dato Rajamani is a renowned and esteemed sportsperson, earning recognition as the Female Sportsperson of the Year in Malaysia for the year 1966. Her exceptional prowess in the 400m event has solidified her status as a standout athlete in the world of sports. Notably, she clinched a gold medal in the South East Asian Games, further cementing her remarkable achievements on the regional stage. Given her illustrious career and significant contributions to the sporting community, Dato Rajamani is a well-deserved recipient of this award.
