In a stirring testament to the power of vocational training and community empowerment, Senator Saraswathy Kandasami recently presided over the closing ceremony of the 2024 Professional Hairdressing Course Program. The event, held with fervor and pride, showcased the culmination of efforts aimed at bolstering the local Indian workforce in the vibrant domain of hairdressing.

Central to the success of this initiative was the generous support extended by MITRA (the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit) in 2023. MITRA’s approval of financial grants totaling RM95,029 to Kanna Hair Salon & Academy set the wheels in motion for a transformative journey. Thirty eager participants seized the opportunity, each benefiting from financial assistance amounting to RM3,167, which covered the costs of tuition and essential materials.

At its core, the Professional Hairdressing Course Program was crafted with a dual purpose. First, it’s to foster a cadre of skilled local Indian workers within the barbering sphere and to arm participants with the requisite tools for income generation. This strategic alignment with governmental aspirations underscores a concerted effort to address the prevailing scarcity of workers in the barbershop sector, thereby fortifying Malaysia’s economic landscape.
