The producers of “Manjummel Boys” have proudly announced that the film has surpassed the Rs. 200-crore milestone in worldwide box office earnings. This remarkable achievement establishes it as the inaugural Malayalam movie to accomplish such a remarkable feat, as stated by the film’s creators. In 2018, Jude Anthany Joseph’s “Everyone is a Hero” ascended as the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, amassing a global revenue of Rs 175 crore. This marked the conclusion of a seven-year reign held by Vysakh’s Mohanlal-starrer “Pulimurugan,” which had garnered over Rs 139 crore in 2016. However, the record set in 2018 was short-lived, as director Chidambaram’s survival genre film, “Manjummel Boys,” has surpassed it to claim the coveted top position.
Beginning its journey as a low-budget Malayalam film without major stars or extensive promotional campaigns, ‘Manjummel Boys’ defied conventional expectations by transforming into an industry sensation. Despite its humble beginnings, the film captivated audiences and industry insiders alike, emerging as a remarkable success story. Its narrative, inspired by real-life events, resonated strongly with viewers, propelling it to unprecedented levels of acclaim and popularity. Particularly noteworthy is the film’s remarkable reception in Tamil Nadu, where it surpassed its reception in Kerala, owing to its connection to the enigmatic ‘Guna Caves’.
What’s truly astonishing is that ‘Manjummel Boys’ achieved this feat without the aid of a dubbed version. This achievement is poised to stand as an unparalleled milestone in the history of Malayalam cinema, setting a benchmark that seems unlikely to be surpassed.
Chidambaram’s creation, ‘Manjummel Boys’, was released on 22nd February 2024 to resounding acclaim from critics and viewers alike. This survival thriller depicts the harrowing journey of a group of friends as they embark on a mission to save their friend, who becomes trapped in a vast chasm within the Guna Caves during their excursion to Kodaikanal.
The film boasts a stellar technical team featuring cinematographer Shyju Khalid, composer Sushin Shyam, editor Vivek Harshan, and production designer Ajayan Chalissery. The film’s production is a collaborative effort between Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony. Meanwhile, Chidambaram has already committed to his next project with Weekend Blockbuster, renowned for their recent action-packed blockbuster “RDX”.
