Singaporean Tamils are celebrating the Tamil Language Festival 2024 under the theme of ‘Aattral’ this year, from March 30th to April 28th. The special month is a collaborative project between the Tamil Language Society and the Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee. A total of 48 organisations have also contributed to the festival by planning approximately 47 different events for this occasion. This festival is aimed primarily at nurturing the growth of the Tamil language among the next generation of Singaporean Tamils.

Minister Indrani Raja graced the event as a special guest and inaugurated Tamil Language Festival at Mediacorp headquarters on Saturday, March 30th, 2024. During her speech at the event, the minister emphasised the significance of media in introducing and teaching children their mother tongue. She highlighted platforms like television, TikTok, and YouTube as effective tools for children to better grasp the Tamil language.

Recognising the importance of preserving the Tamil language for future generations, more than 65% of the events scheduled for Tamil Language Festival are being organised by young people. These events are geared towards educating young children about the importance of the Tamil language.

One of the notable programs among the organized events is a storytelling session designed specifically for young children. This session aims to incorporate literary, cultural, and artistic elements of the Tamil language and society.

Minister Indrani Raja also stressed the importance of fostering innovative ideas by choosing the theme ‘Aattral’, which encourages forward-thinking approaches in creating new forms of programming for Tamil language teaching and learning.
