R. B. Mageswari, a single mother, is reaching out for assistance as her son, Bala Chantran, is in need of a new prosthetic leg. As the boy is currently 18 years old, the current prosthetics that he has, which he has been using since the age of 15, cannot withstand the growing weight of the teenager. Along with that, the metal of the prosthetic is also rusting. The cost of a new prosthetic leg is RM14,664.00, a daunting sum for a single mother, whish is why she is currently seeking public assistance.

In a plea for help, Mageswari appeals to the public’s generosity. Donations to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund can be made through Bank Muamalat: 14010008842718 or Maybank: 514105323170. Alternatively, checks addressed to A. Bala Chantran can be sent to the Corporate Communications Department of Media Prima Berhad, Balai Berita, 31, Jalan Riong, 59100, Kuala Lumpur. For more information please contact 03-27248955.

The boy’s condition all began with what seemed like a minor complaint: muscle cramps in his legs. Concerned, Mageswari promptly took him to a nearby clinic the following day, thinking his discomfort was just a result of an intense game of football. However, both the clinic and a subsequent government hospital visit dismissed it as mere muscle pain.

Bala Chantran’s condition swiftly deteriorated, marked by dizziness, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Alarmed, Mageswari rushed him back to the clinic, only to receive devastating news – his appendix had ruptured, causing a severe leg infection. As his leg turned black, Bala Chantran slipped into a coma, fighting for his life in the hospital for a month. Eventually, doctors had no choice but to amputate his right leg below the knee.
