New Era for Safety and Inclusivity: MRT Putrajaya Line to Launch Dedicated Women’s Coach Starting Today

According to CEO of Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd Amir Hamdan, the women’s coach service for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Putrajaya line will start today.

According to Amir, in order to make it easier for passengers to recognize the women’s coaches, which are situated in the middle of each train, special pink stickers have been placed at 36 stops and 49 trains on the MRT Putrajaya line.

In the lead-up to the impending Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, Amir and other Rapid Rail managers had earlier serenaded about 100 passengers on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelana Jaya line from Datuk Keramat Station to KL Sentral with Raya music.

The project, which is a continuation of the innovative MRT Kajang Line women’s coach service that started on September 18 of last year, would guarantee more comfortable and safe travels for female passengers, who make up up to 60% of rail passengers.

At a press conference held on Saturday, April 6, in KL Sentral, he stated, “Since its introduction, the women’s coach service has been well received by passengers, and data shows that the number of sexual harassment complaints on the MRT Kajang line has dropped from an average of 3.2 cases to two cases a month.”

According to Amir, each trip can accommodate between 300 and 400 passengers in the two women’s coaches. Volunteer police have also been stationed to periodically check on trains and stops to make sure that everyone is using the women’s coaches as intended.

Each train set has a women’s coach in the middle that uses some of the second and third coaches. Additionally, Myrapid has indicated that boys 12 years of age and younger who are escorted by a female guardian, as well as all female passengers of any age, may enter the women’s coach. It is recommended that female travelers take the women’s coach so that other travelers can board the regular coaches.
