It has been a long standing tradition to have SP Balasubrahmanyam sing the introductory song in a Rajinikanth film. However, in the last few films of Thalaivar, we haven’t heard much of SPB’s voice. Sure, there was that tiny bit in Petta’s Marana Mass, but nothing else since the song O Nanba in 2014’s Lingaa.
Good news folks. SPB is set to sing Rajinikanth’s opening number in Darbar. With music composed by Anirudh, fans are elated that Thalaivar’s ‘good luck charm’ is back to croon for him.
Legend has it that every Rajinikanth film that features SPB in the introductory song will turn out to be a blockbuster hit. While this did apply to Arunachalam, Annamalai, Muthu, Chandramukhi and even Padaiyappa, the formula failed when it came to Linga and Kochadaiyaan, both which didn’t do too well in the box office.
Darbar is touted to be a police thriller. Rajinikanth plays a police officer in the film, and this will be only the third time he has played that character, after Moondru Mugam and Pandiyan.
Nayanthara will join Thalaivar on screen, and they will be complemented by an ensemble cast comprising of Prakash Raj, Nivetha Thomas, Prateik Babbar, Dalip Tahil, Yogi Babu, Soori, Harish Uthaman, Manobala, Suman, Anandaraj, Rao Ramesh and Bose Venkat.
Darbar will hit the screens on the 9th of January next year.
