The Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam, in collaboration with the Malaysia Council of Hindu Temples and Hindu Associations (MAHIMA), hosted the “Thiruvilangu Saiva Thirumurai Conference” over the course of two days last weekend, on the 27th and 28th of April 2024. This conference featured a Thirumurai competition organized by Team DSK, religious speeches delivered by renowned spiritual speakers and Saiva activists, as well as musical and Thirumurai kacheri sessions aimed at imparting valuable insights, spiritual knowledge, and experiences.

An impactful moment unfolded during the event as Team DSK, under the leadership of Dato Sivakumar, unveiled a groundbreaking website dedicated to the life stories of the 63 Nayanmars. This website serves as a comprehensive repository of information, offering written narratives detailing the lives of these revered saints. The website is available in two languages, Tamil and English. Additionally, visitors have access to well-explained audio recordings of the stories, enhancing the immersive experience. Furthermore, the website boasts visual elements that complement the narratives, enriching the understanding and appreciation of the Nayanmars’ journeys.

Nayanmars, were a group of devout Shaivite saints in ancient South India. They were ardent devotees of Lord Shiva.  They composed devotional hymns, known as “Thevaram” and “Thiruvasagam,” expressing their deep reverence and love for Lord Shiva. These hymns, written in Tamil and known as Thirumurai, are considered sacred texts in the Shaivite tradition and are still recited and revered by devotees today.

One of the most notable aspects of the Nayanmars’ lives is their unwavering devotion and willingness to sacrifice everything for their beloved deity. Many Nayanmars faced persecution and challenges from society due to their radical devotion, yet they remained steadfast in their faith. The stories of the Nayanmars often depict miracles, divine interventions, and instances of profound spiritual experiences. These narratives not only highlight their extraordinary devotion but also serve as inspirational tales for devotees seeking a deeper connection with the divine.

Through the launch of this website dedicated to the life stories of the Nayanmars, Indians and Saivites alike stand to benefit significantly. This online platform serves as a valuable resource for accessing detailed information about the 63 Nayanmars, their life stories, and their unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva. This website ensures that the rich history and spiritual heritage of the Nayanmars are preserved and passed on to the next generation. This initiative not only enhances the understanding and appreciation of Shaivism but also inspires devotees to deepen their devotion and spiritual practice.

During the conference, Dato Sivakumar announced plans for the forthcoming launch of a religious mobile application. This announcement adds further dimension to the accessibility and reach of the valuable religious resource. The conference served as a pivotal platform for fostering religious interest and knowledge, providing attendees with opportunities to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Shaivism.
