The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has released a statement stating that the digital motor insurance platform Bjak Sdn Bhd is not authorized to provide road tax renewal services.
According to an official statement made via the department’s X (previously Twitter) account, such services from Bjak have never been approved by either JPJ or the Transportation Ministry at any time.
Additionally, it says that the digital insurance platform’s assertions that it has been “audited, verified, and approved” are false and could mislead the general public.
JPJ continues by stating that it has received complaints regarding road tax renewals made through Bjak in which the road tax expiration date or validity term was not updated.
It adds that no additional costs that the platform charges its consumers have been approved by the department, which emphasizes that there is no integration between the JPJ system (MySikap) and the systems utilized by Bjak.
BJAK has issued a statement stating that it is “actively working with the authority to find a win-win situation that benefits the consumers” and that it acknowledges the concerns brought out by JPJ.Road tax renewal is described as an optional and complimentary service for its clients, with comparison and renewal of auto insurance being the main offering.
Within the statement, it states, “It’s important to note that BJAK’s free road tax campaign is part of a private initiative aimed at enhancing customer value and is not affiliated with any governmental mandate or regulation.”JPJ also urged the public to renew their road tax through JPJ counters, kiosks, the MyJPJ app, the public JPJ portal, and JPJ partner platforms such as Pos Malaysia, MyEG, and Puspakom.
