Sree Abirame Chendren Clinches Gold at President Cup in Busan

Sree Abirame Chendren, Malaysia’s tiny ice princess, continued to shine on the ice, defeating all of her South Korean opponents to win the gold medal at the President Cup competition in Busan, her second straight triumph in the tournament last Saturday.

Despite a little stumble on one of her jumps, she earned 39.92 to win the Korean club championship over the second-placed homester, who scored 38.62.

Abirame, who represents Team Jewels Academy Gimhae in the novice intermediate division, also won the novice beginning class last year. It was the Malaysian girl’s second title this year, having trained in Gimhae since February 2023.

She also won the Gimhae Open Figure Skating Championships in January of this year.

Despite her victory, Abirame was not pleased with her performance. “I was one among the last contestants on the rink. The ice had worn out and becoming slick by that point. But that is not an excuse,” she said.

During one of the jumps, she slid and appeared to fall, but recovered quickly in order to impress the judges.

Abirame is presently attending a sports school in Korea and was the competition’s sole non-Korean participant.
