In a remarkable display of innovation and technological prowess, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Pulau Carey Barat’s students clinched the silver medal at the prestigious 35th International Invention, Innovation, Technology Competition & Exhibition Malaysia (ITEX’24). Held from May 16th to 18th, 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, this annual event showcases cutting-edge inventions from across Asia and beyond.
Under the mentorship of Mrs. Vasagai Gandan and the guidance of School Headmaster Mr. Stevan Antonysamy, five exceptional students Rubesh Kumaran, Sai Kavesh Saravanan, Thanosini Kamala Kannan, Kavilashini Vailmurugan, and Kirtika Kunasegaran crafted an AI Smart Mushroom Chamber.
This innovative chamber integrates artificial intelligence with advanced sensor technology to optimize mushroom cultivation conditions, ensuring consistent and enhanced yields. Notably, this invention not only addresses existing challenges in traditional mushroom farming but also heralds a new era of technology-driven, sustainable agriculture, particularly benefiting B40 farmers and promoting increased food production at smaller scales.
The significance of this achievement resonates beyond the confines of the competition arena. Mrs. Vasagai Gandan emphasized the motivational impact on students, stating, “Seeing students succeed on an international stage will motivate other students to pursue their own projects and participate in competitions. The winning team members will serve as role models, demonstrating that hard work, creativity, and perseverance can lead to significant accomplishments.”
Moreover, both the teacher and the headmaster expressed gratitude for the exposure gained through ITEX’24. “We were exposed to a wide array of innovative projects from around the world. This broadened our understanding of how different cultures and perspectives approach problem-solving.
The competition pushed us to enhance our technical and soft skills. From advanced prototyping and coding to public speaking and teamwork, we grew significantly in various areas,” shared the teacher and headmaster. Both the teacher and the headmaster appreciated the school management (PIBG) and parents for their tremendous help.
ITEX’24 witnessed the presentation of over 700 inventions, technologies, and products from more than 15 countries, illustrating the global impact and reach of innovative initiatives. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Pulau Carey Barat’s consistent participation in such competitions underscores its commitment to nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence among its students. In 2022, this school got a gold medal as well as the Taiwan special award at (ITEX 22).
As the world grapples with multifaceted challenges, the success of initiatives like the AI Smart Mushroom Chamber serves as a beacon of hope, showcasing the transformative power of education, creativity, and technology in shaping a brighter, more sustainable future. Throughout the years, the school has actively sent students to numerous innovation and invention competitions.
