S.Sivasangari is eager for the upcoming season after being recognized by the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) with the Datuk Alex Lee Award for Outstanding Women Player.
She received recognition for her two gold medals from the Hangzhou Asian Games in the women’s individual and team competitions.
World No. 10 Sivasangari made a spectacular finish to the season as she assisted Malaysia in defeating Hong Kong 2-0 in the Asian Women’s Team championship final on Sunday in Dalian, China.In Dalian, Sivasangari accepted the Dato Alex Lee Award from Zena Wooldridge, president of the World Squash Federation.
She and her national teammates, Rachel and the Azman sisters, Aifa and Aira, received the ASF Women’s Team Award for winning the Asian Games team gold.Sivasangari, who was born in Kedah, plans to put on another stellar show at the US$280,000 Egyptian Open in Cairo from August 30 to September 6. This year’s squash season will extend to June of next year, starting in August.

“The award will further boost and motivate Sivasangari to perform better in tournaments this year,” he stated.Sivasangari also took home the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Moment of the Season and Women’s Match of the Season honors earlier this month.
The London Classic victory by Sivasangari, who defeated world No. 3 Hania El Hammamy, world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini, and world No. 4 Nele Gilis, earned her the Moment of the Season title. She won the Match of the Season title for her thrilling five-game triumph over El Hammamy in 81 minutes in the championship game.In the meantime, Ng Eain Yow, the individual gold medallist in the Asian Games, took home the Datuk Alex Lee Award for men’s gymnastics.
The Hassan Musa Award in the Junior Girl Player category went to Aira Azman, who competed in the World Junior Championships (WJC) in Melbourne last year and earned silver medals in both the individual and team events.After leading Aira to an individual gold medal at the Asian Games and the Malaysian team to a silver medal in the WJC, English coach Andrew Cross was named Coach of the Year.
