Comedian, playwright and actor, Crazy Mohan passed away earlier today in Chennai. He suffered an acute heart attack this afternoon and was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. Efforts to revive him failed and he was declared dead at 2 pm. He was 67 years old.
Born Mohan Rangachari, the thespian earned the moniker ‘Crazy’ thanks to his first play, Crazy Thieves in Palavakkam, which was released in 1976. He was introduced to the Tamil film fraternity as a scriptwriter for K Balachander’s Poikkal Kudhirai.
In 1979, Mohan started his own production company with his brother, Crazy Creations. They produced more than 30 plays and staged thousands of shows in India and abroad. The most popular play being Chocolate Krishna, one that has been staged more than 500 times in a span of 3 years.
Mohan was popularly associated with Kamal Haasan. The two have starred and made the audience laugh in Aboorva Sagodharargal, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Sathi Leelavathi, Thenali, Panchathanthiram, Kadhala Kadhala, Avvai Shanmugi, Vasool Raja MBBS and Pammal K Sambantham. He also wrote Indian. Mohan also helmed the script of films like Vietnam Colony and Magalir Mattum.
Condolences have been pouring in on Twitter, with the who’s who of South Indian cinema mourning the actor’s loss.
