Geetha Kandiah has been appointed president of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC), following the chamber’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday, June 27.
Geetha, the chief executive officer of KASS International and an expert in intellectual property, is the third woman to head the chamber in its 33-year history, according to MGCC.
Jan Noether, executive director of the MGCC, stated during the AGM that Geetha, Tim Groth’s successor, carries with her two decades of legal knowledge.
“As the new president, Geetha will oversee the activities of MGCC, which represents the interests of more than 430 members by connecting German companies to Malaysia to promote foreign trade,” it said in a statement issued on Friday.
Jan Noether, executive director of MGCC, expressed his pleasure at Geetha’s arrival. Tim Groth, the outgoing president who led the organization for a year, was thanked by Noether.
“She brings with her two decades of legal experience and her strong business acumen along with knowledge of the region across various industries will undoubtedly propel the chamber’s role in driving investments into Malaysia,” he stated.
The MGCC wants to be a progressive chamber of commerce, and Geetha’s nomination aligns with that goal. Currently, 31% of the organization’s board of directors is made up of women.
In addition to being a highly sought-after worldwide speaker, Geetha is an experienced lawyer who oversees a business with a regional presence.
She is also a business strategy coach and a steering committee member of the Malaysian branch of the 30% Club, which promotes sustainable business-led change to boost gender diversity by committing to increasing female representation on Malaysian company boards.
