Kamal Haasan, the stalwart of Indian cinema is basking in the success of his latest venture, “Kalki 2898 AD”. Despite his limited screen presence in the film, his performance has left audiences intrigued and yearning for more. During a recent interview, the legendary actor shared his thoughts on his role and the film’s groundbreaking impact.

A Brief Yet Impactful Role

“In ‘Kalki 2898 AD”, I have played a small role that appears for only a few minutes. My real part in the film has only begun, and I will have more to do in the second part,” Kamal revealed.

He expressed his excitement for the sequel, promising fans that his character’s journey is far from over. “So, I watched this film as a fan and I was astonished,” he added, reflecting on his experience of viewing the film from an audience’s perspective.

A Testament to Global Indian Cinema

Kamal praised the film’s director, Nag Ashwin for his conscientious work in handling of the subject of mythology without religious bias.

“We have been seeing many signifiers that Indian cinema is moving towards global entertainment, and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is one among them,” Kamal stated.

He emphasized the film’s place within the rich tapestry of global storytelling traditions, comparing it to the narratives found in Japanese, Chinese, and Greek civilizations.

Box Office Triumph

“Kalki 2898 AD” has not only captivated audiences but also shattered box office records. Released across multiple languages on June 27, the film grossed an impressive Rs 298.5 crore worldwide within its first two days. On its opening day, it earned Rs 95.30 crore in India and Rs 191.5 crore globally. By the second day, it added another Rs 54 crore, bringing the total to Rs 298.5 crore. The film’s official Instagram handle confirmed these remarkable figures, showcasing its massive success.

A Futuristic Epic

Set in a dystopian world inspired by Hindu scriptures, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ features an ensemble cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani, alongside Kamal Haasan. The film was also filled with many cameo artists that made the audience feel surprised and excited to see more. Kalki explores a post-apocalyptic narrative set in the year 2898 AD, blending futuristic elements with ancient mythological themes.

Looking Forward to ‘Kalki 2’

We can already see Kamal Hassan’s excitement for the sequel of Kalki. At the Pinkvilla interview, he spoke about his brief but significant role in the first part and his eagerness to delve deeper into the character in the upcoming sequel.

I am intrigued by the world of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’,” Haasan said, highlighting his fascination with the universe created by Nag Ashwin.

He elaborated on his decision to join the project, noting that it wasn’t motivated by financial gain but by the compelling narrative and the respect he received from the production house, Vyjayanthi Movies. “It’s not about the money, it can be earned and lost with a good or bad decision. But to make the right decision irrespective of the money is equal to an applause,” Kamal Haasan shared.

Future Endeavors

Apart from his role in ‘Kalki 2898 AD”, Kamal Haasan is set to return to the big screen in “Indian 2”, reprising his iconic role as Senapathy. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 12, adding to the anticipation surrounding Kamal’s upcoming projects.

As fans eagerly await the sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD”, Kamal Haasan’s brief but powerful performance in the first installment has set the stage for an even more captivating continuation of this futuristic.
