Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the cyberbullying of Malaysian social media influencer Rajeswary Appahu, who was found dead at her apartment on July 5.
The suspect, identified as “Dulal Brothers” online, was apprehended in Setapak around 6.30pm yesterday and taken to the police headquarters, according to New Straits Times.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari confirmed the arrest, stating, “the suspect has been detained and is expected to be remanded to facilitate the investigation.”
He added that the arrest was made based on thorough police work and intelligence gathered by the team. Earlier the same day, police had obtained a remand extension for another female suspect allegedly linked to the suicide of the 30-year-old activist Rajeswary, better known as Esha.
Both suspects are accused of cyberbullying, harassing, threatening, and making derogatory statements about Rajeswary, causing her considerable stress and public humiliation.
It was reported that Rajeswary had filed a police report naming both suspects the day before her body was found at her apartment. The case has sparked nationwide anger and garnered the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and Parliament.
