Shivani Raja, a 29-year-old businesswoman of Indian heritage from Gujarat, has sworn an oath on the Bhagavad Gita in the UK Parliament.
Shivani secured a historic win in the Leicester East seat for the Conservative Party, ending the Labour Party’s 37-year dominance in the constituency. She was contesting against fellow Indian-origin Labour candidate Rajesh Agrawal.
Soon after being sworn in as a British MP, Shivani expressed on X platform: “It was a privilege to take my oath in Parliament today and serve as the representative for Leicester East. I am deeply proud to pledge my allegiance to His Majesty King Charles on the Gita.”
